Last Week in Carlisle | June 22 through 28, 2026 | Fairs, Swifties, and a Presidential Visit
Between major political announcements, downtown pop-culture transformations, and unpredictable summer weather shaking up our favorite festivals, the week of June 22 through June 28, 2026, brought plenty of exciting headlines. Here is a quick look at the most surprising and impactful things that happened in Carlisle last week.
- Double Fair Kickoff: A new commercial state fair and the historic Carlisle Summerfair both kicked off.
- Presidential Announcement: President Donald Trump will headline a massive defense summit at the U.S. Army War College.
- Weather Woes: Heavy rain forced the cancellation or postponement of several beloved weekend events.
- Taylor Takeover Week: Downtown businesses transformed for “Taylor Takeover Week” with themed deals and a scavenger hunt.
- America250 Plans: Dickinson College announced historic illuminated America250 celebration plans.
- Camp Invention: Lamberton Middle School hosted a hands-on Camp Invention STEM camp for kids.
- Patriots’ Path Launch: The new “Patriots’ Path” Revolutionary War heritage trail officially opened.
- Farmers Market Leadership: Genesis Whitlock was named the new manager of Farmers on the Square.
Two Fairs, One Town
Friday, June 26, was a huge day because two different fairs started at once. The inaugural Carlisle State Fair opened at the Fairgrounds, operating as a commercial theme park run by Wade Shows. It is a brand new project, not a revival of the historic 1940s fair, and features over 30 rides, the Sea Lion Splash, and the Porkchop Revue. On the other hand, the non-profit Carlisle Summerfair also kicked off with free community fun, including a Dickinson College Ice Cream Social and a concert by Cheap Sneakers. That same day, the Cumberland County Department of Public Safety hosted its largest-ever 9-1-1 Summer Fair with K-9 searches and a helicopter landing.
Donald Trump Set to Headline Huge War College Summit
On June 24, Senator Dave McCormick announced massive news for our local military hub. President Donald Trump is coming to Carlisle to headline the 2026 Pennsylvania Defense and Innovation Summit at the U.S. Army War College on July 14 and 15. Trump is set to speak on July 15, focusing on new investments and local manufacturing jobs. The huge summit is gathering top military leaders and tech CEOs from companies like Boeing, JPMorgan, and SpaceX to talk about the future of national defense.
Saturday’s Weather Curveball

We all know Pennsylvania weather can change fast, and a severe forecast for heavy rain acted as a major curveball for our weekend plans on Saturday, June 27. Because of the severe storms, the Summerfair Board had to cancel Saturday’s highly anticipated Craft Show, historic baseball game, and children’s fishing derby. Additionally, Hope Station made a strategic move by postponing their Juneteenth Freedom Festival Block Party at Memorial Park to July 18. They made this move to make sure they have the best volunteer and vendor logistics for a great turnout so they wouldn’t get rained out.
Downtown Transforms for Taylor Takeover Week
Downtown Carlisle caught serious pop-culture fever during “Taylor Takeover Week” from June 22 through June 28. Almost 30 local businesses joined in for a massive “Eras Scavenger Hunt” where shoppers searched for hidden “Tiny Taylor” figures to win prizes, including a life-size Travis Kelce cardboard cutout. It was a brilliant move that drove huge foot traffic as fans rushed to grab custom drinks and themed discounts at local shops.
| Participating Business | Taylor Takeover Week Special |
| Marjorie’s Gems | 13% off all purple items & a free friendship bracelet with purchase. |
| The ClothesVine | Stocked the exact style of jeans Taylor wore to the Big Game. |
| Pat Craig Studios | 34% off select items to celebrate Taylor’s 34th birthday. |
| Whistlestop Bookshop | Featured 8 different Taylor Swift books & her personal reading list. |
| C-Luv Thrift Swift | Offered a rack of $5 dresses and hosted a permanent jewelry pop-up. |
Dickinson College Announces Historic America250 Celebration
On June 24, Dickinson College shared their America250 celebration plans, revealing they are getting ready for a massive historic milestone. Next month, the college will light up its oldest building, Old West, in red, white, and blue as part of a national “Light to Unite” event. They also announced a huge, free community party on the Academic Quad set for July 8. It will feature a bunch of local food trucks and a synchronized public reading of the Declaration of Independence led by President John E. Jones III.
Young Innovators Shine at Lamberton Middle School’s Camp Invention

While school is out, local kids were still hard at work building the future at Lamberton Middle School’s Camp Invention, which started on June 23. This hands-on STEM camp helped kids from kindergarten through sixth grade build their problem-solving skills and confidence. The young inventors tackled awesome projects like taking apart wind-up robots, building light-up wands, exploring pond ecosystems, and pitching sustainable architectural designs to mock investors. It was a great way to keep kids’ minds active during the first few weeks of summer vacation.
Walking Through History on the Patriots’ Path
Sunday brought clear skies and a great new activity for history buffs. The Cumberland County Historical Society officially launched “Patriots’ Path: Explore the Revolutionary War in Cumberland Valley” on June 28. The day started at the Historical Society headquarters on Pitt Street with a public reading of the Declaration of Independence to kick off the “Bunting & Banners” exhibition. The new trail is a perfect free activity for the family to explore Carlisle’s vital role as a military and logistics hub during the American Revolution.
Fresh Leadership for Farmers on the Square
Our downtown food scene and commerce are getting a boost with a fresh face in leadership. On June 25, it was announced that recent Dickinson College graduate Genesis Whitlock has taken over as the new market manager for Farmers on the Square. Whitlock is stepping up to lead our “downtown agricultural commerce,” proving how local college alumni are sticking around to help drive downtown revitalization. The market is a vital hub for local farmers and downtown life.
Looking Ahead
Even with a little bit of rain, last week showed that summer in Carlisle is packed with action. With the fairs sticking around through early July, historic America250 celebrations on the horizon, and a massive presidential visit coming up fast, our local calendar is absolutely buzzing. As we head deeper into July, these events will continue to bring our community together and keep our local economy strong.
