The Carlisle Cannons U18 Girls Soccer Team was recognized by Mayor Sean Schultz with a Mayoral Proclamation for their exceptional achievement as the 2025 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup Champions. Coach Doug Fitzgerald, who joined the Mayor, described the team’s success as a result of their long history playing together, noting their journey began on local youth soccer fields when the girls were six or seven years old.
The team’s US Soccer National President’s Cup journey began in October 2024, demonstrating commitment and excellence. They advanced through the Pennsylvania State Cup pool in April and May, culminating in a decisive 2-0 victory in the state cup final held at the Philadelphia Union’s WSFS Bank Sportsplex on May 17, 2025. The Canons continued their winning streak at the USYS Regionals in June, where they went undefeated, scoring 11 goals and conceding none, earning the title of regional champions. Simultaneously, the team excelled in the EDP league, finishing at the top of their table (standings).
The team represented Pennsylvania at the USYS National Championships in Florida from July 10th through the 15th, 2025. They advanced from pool play to defeat Tennessee in a dramatic semi-final that required double extra time, and ultimately triumphed 2-0 over the previously undefeated Chicago USC in the national championship match. The Mayor commended the team’s success as being built not only on skill and strategy but on unity, perseverance, and unwavering commitment. Furthermore, four outstanding players from the team were named to the USYS Best 11 for their exceptional performance: Reese Hughes (center back), Samantha Nisley (attacking midfielder), Ella Garmin (forward), and Elizabeth Border, who was also the recipient of the Golden Gloves Award.
