Plastic Flamingos “Invade” the Borough Police Station Lawn
If you drove past the Carlisle Police station on Lincoln Street early in the week, you probably did a double take at the bright pink plastic flamingos covering the grass. Borough officers staged a playful “investigation” and questioned the plastic suspects before finding out the whole display was a creative fundraiser for Carlisle High School. It was a fun, lighthearted surprise that gave officers and neighbors a good laugh and proved local news doesn’t always have to be serious.
More Than 375 Volunteers Turn Out for the 30th Day of Caring

Friday, October 9, marked an incredible community milestone as the United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County hosted its 30th Annual Day of Caring. Over 375 dedicated volunteers kicked off their morning with breakfast at Dickinson College’s Allison Hall before heading out to tackle painting, repairs, and landscaping at more than 40 non-profits, churches, and public agencies. The morning of hard work saved local organizations thousands of dollars in facility costs before everyone met back up for lunch at LeTort Park Pavilion.
Paranormal Cirque Specter Brings Spooky Thrills to the Fairgrounds
The Carlisle Fairgrounds hosted a wild spectacle from October 9 through October 12 when Cirque Italia set up its Paranormal Cirque Specter tent at 1000 Bryn Mawr Road. Inside the climate-controlled big top, audiences enjoyed an adult-oriented performance blending aerial acrobatics, illusions, and dark gothic cabaret. The spooky blend of thrills and seasonal fun gave local entertainment seekers an early Halloween-season experience that had the whole town talking.
School District Officially Transfers South Dickinson Elementary
Carlisle Area School District officially closed the book on the former South Dickinson Elementary School property by finalizing its transfer to Dickinson Township. Handing over the vacant building removes long-term utility and maintenance expenses from the school district’s operating budget, saving local taxpayers money. At the same time, Dickinson Township now gains ownership of a valuable property that can be repurposed for municipal utility and public community projects down the road.
Carlisle High School Kicks Off Clubs and Unveils Homecoming Week
Students and families at Carlisle High School received major fall calendar updates as extracurricular clubs officially began meeting on Tuesday, October 6. School administrators also announced the schedule for Homecoming Spirit Week running October 13 through October 17. The week includes an inter-class dodgeball tournament on October 13, the annual Powderpuff football game on October 14, the varsity Homecoming game on October 16, and the Homecoming Dance in Swartz Gymnasium on Saturday, October 17.
Thundering Herd Football Battles Chambersburg Under Friday Night Lights

Carlisle High School varsity football traveled to face rival Chambersburg on Friday, October 9, falling 33-13 in a hard-fought Mid-Penn Commonwealth matchup that moved Carlisle’s record to 1-6. Despite falling behind 20-0 at halftime, the Thundering Herd showed serious heart in the second half. Quarterback Carter Wilson pushed across the goal line on a 1-yard run to finish an impressive 14-play, 90-yard drive, and Jayce Jones blocked and recovered a punt in the end zone for a thrilling fourth-quarter touchdown.
Borough Street Repaving Pauses as Police Navigate Body Camera Budget Limits
Carlisle Borough shared two notable municipal updates covering public works and safety funding. Planned street milling and repaving tied to the Water Main Replacement Project have been temporarily deferred due to contractor schedules and weather hurdles. Meanwhile, borough officials reviewed long-term budget demands for the Carlisle Police Department‘s body-worn camera systems, noting that because no state or federal replacement grants exist right now aside from vendor trade-in credits, upcoming municipal budgets will have to fund replacements directly.
Middlesex Police Arrest Two Men in Late-Night Semi-Truck Burglary
Officers in neighboring Middlesex Township moved fast early Sunday morning, October 4, to stop an active commercial break-in at Saia Trucking on 80 Roadway Drive. Arriving around 4:47 AM, police caught Luis Jose Pena-Marte and Francisco Leon-Popa breaking into semi-trailers while carrying bolt cutters and screwdrivers. Officers also discovered Leon-Popa had an unlicensed concealed handgun, leading to charges for both men including vehicle burglary, theft, and possessing instruments of crime.
Quick Police Response at Harrisburg Pike Motel Leads to Assault Charges
Middlesex Township Police were dispatched to America’s Best Value Inn at 1247 Harrisburg Pike on Wednesday, October 7, for a domestic disturbance call. Investigators determined that 49-year-old Brian Scott Bonetti had struck his fiancé in the face during an argument inside the motel room. Officers arrested Bonetti on the scene without incident, transporting him to the Cumberland County Booking Center on charges of simple assault and harassment.
Fall Cars at Carlisle Wraps Up the 2026 Automotive Calendar

Mild autumn weather greeted thousands of car enthusiasts as Fall Cars at Carlisle closed out the town’s 2026 collector car season at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. Buyers browsed through 8,100 vendor and corral spaces between September 30 and October 4, spotting rare vehicles like a $10,500 Buick Grand National project and an ultra-rare 1968 Mustang convertible. The Cumberland Valley Classics Car Club also gathered at Red Robin on October 9 for their cruise night, and drivers can now look ahead to Spring Carlisle returning April 21–25, 2027.
Dickinson College and Parks & Rec Debut New Fall Gatherings and Fitness
Campus life and community fitness programs were in full swing across town last week. Dickinson College opened Hartman House on Thursday, October 8, inviting students, faculty, and neighbors to its free American Studies Fall Welcome Back patio reception. Meanwhile, Carlisle Parks and Recreation kicked off fresh adult fitness sessions at the Stuart Community Center (including Beginner Barre, Yoga, Beginner Pilates Session 2, and weekly bouting for the Carlisle Fencing Club).
Community Honors Faye Hoover and Longtime Carlisle Residents
Our community said goodbye to several cherished neighbors, including 97-year-old Anna Faye Hoover, who passed away on October 9. Alongside her late husband Emerson, she ran Hoover’s Candies at the Carlisle Farmers’ Market for decades while serving in leadership roles for the Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem, with funeral services set for October 17 at Hoffman Funeral Home. Carlisle also honored the memories of 71-year-old Karen A. Whitmire and 83-year-old Air Force veteran Larry Charles Danner during services held on October 6.
