Month-Long Shopping: The Nutcracker Stroll
Our retail highlight is the Nutcracker Stroll & Online Auction, which keeps the holiday spirit going from December 1st through the 31st. We can stroll through Downtown Carlisle to see numerous four-foot-tall, flat nutcrackers decorated by local businesses. You can bid on your favorites using the online auction system accessed by QR codes placed at the displays, making it easy to support local retailers all month long.
Civic Celebrations and Parades
The main festive spectacles happen early in the month. The Carlisle Barracks Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony takes place on Wednesday, December 3rd, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, beginning with Santa’s Sleigh Ride at 4:15 PM. The next evening, Thursday, December 4th, we gather downtown for the free Making Spirits Bright Holiday Parade from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The parade starts at Biddle Mission Park and travels west on E. North Street to Hanover Street before heading south to Willow Street. Later that weekend, the Holly Jolly Jubilee and Tree Lighting offers free fun for children, including visits with Santa and a real reindeer, in the Veterans Courtyard on the Town Square on Saturday, December 6th, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

For those interested in history and the arts, Carlisle offers unique experiences. This event runs from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 7th, and again on December 14th. The Carlisle Barracks Spouse’s Club Tour of Homes is a ticketed event on Sunday, December 14th (5:00 PM to 8:30 PM), offering a look inside five private, decorated homes within the Barracks, which includes a refreshment break at Delaney Field House.
The Carlisle Theatre hosts numerous holiday screenings, including a $5 special screening of The Polar Express (Dec 6), and other films like The Grinch (Dec 7), Home Alone (Dec 15), Elf (Dec 16), and Love Actually (Dec 23). End-of-Year Festivities
We wrap up the month with a unique local flair at the Hotchee New Year celebration on Wednesday, December 31st (6:00 PM to 10:00 PM), held around the Carlisle Theatre on West High Street.
