Last Week in Carlisle, PA | June 1 through 7, 2026 | Mega Car Shows, School Groundbreakings, and New Phone Fines

Between the roar of classic engines taking over the streets and major news dropping that affects our schools and wallets, keeping up with Carlisle can feel like a full-time job. We’ve rounded up the most impactful and surprising events that happened right here in our backyard during the first week of June.

Here’s a quick look at the top four things you need to know from last week:

In surprising legal news, Pennsylvania’s Attorney General filed felony and misdemeanor charges against a Carlisle-based business, Jones Manure Hauling, and its owner. The charges stem from an unreported 2021 spill where a hose broke while transferring slaughterhouse waste, contaminating the local groundwater supply in Franklin County. Neighbors reported their well water smelled like decomposing animal matter. The state says the aquifer remains contaminated today, making this a massive ongoing environmental issue for our region.

Ground Broken on a High-Tech New Middle School

The Carlisle Area School District officially broke ground on the new Carlisle Middle School on June 2. This huge, 213,447-square-foot facility is being built right next to Wilson Intermediate School and will feature a smart “Main Street” layout. This design will separate quiet academic classrooms from the loud, high-activity areas like the gym and cafeteria. It’s a huge investment in our town’s future, designed with an outdoor learning courtyard and pre-sized utilities to leave room for future expansion.

55,000 Ford Fans Took Over Carlisle

You probably heard the engines all week! The Carlisle Ford Nationals, the largest all-Ford car show in the world, brought over 3,200 vehicles and 55,000 guests to town. This year was extra special, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the iconic Ford Bronco. The fun didn’t stop at the fairgrounds, as the annual Ford Parade, Park & Party brought nearly 400 cars and a free concert right into downtown Carlisle on Saturday night, bringing a massive boost to our local shops and restaurants.

Put the Phone Down: Paul Miller’s Law is Here

If you’re used to checking your phone while driving around Cumberland County, it’s time to break the habit. On June 6, Paul Miller’s Law officially went into effect across Pennsylvania. Local police departments are now allowed to issue primary citations if they catch you using an interactive mobile device behind the wheel, even when you are temporarily stopped in traffic or sitting at a red light. A ticket will cost you a $50 fine, plus extra court costs, so put the phone away and keep your eyes on the road.

Looking Ahead

From environmental crackdowns and new driving laws to celebrating automotive history and breaking ground on our children’s future, the first week of June brought major shifts to Carlisle. As we head deeper into the summer, these changes, especially the new school construction and stricter driving rules, will definitely continue to shape our daily lives in the Carlisle.
