The Mission

I tried a slice of plain cheese pizza at every traditional pizza shop the Carlisle, Pennsylvania on a mission to find the best slice of pizza in Carlisle. I could eat pizza almost every meal of the day, it’s definitely one of my top favorite foods without question. And when I get pizza, I usually just get a few plain cheese slices from a traditional pizza shop nearby. Nothing fancy. But I am a bit picky about my slices. And since I live in Carlisle now, so I gotta know where the best slice is! After trying all the places, this is now my favorite slice of pizza in Carlisle because of their sauce, sauce to cheese ratio, crust, and price. Even Playing Field

I made sure to visit each pizza shop either around noon or around 5:00PM/6:00PM when they should have a good fresh slice pie ready that hasn’t been sitting around for a while. This puts them on even playing fields and gives them the best shot at giving me a good representation of their slices. It also gives me the opportunity to see how the service is when they are a bit more busy. And I do not let them know I am doing a review, so they are not doing anything special or better because of that.

My Bias

Full disclosure, I’m a sauce guy. I need enough sauce and it needs to have some tang and/or sweetness and good flavor, or I won’t like it. And I don’t like a crazy amount of cheese, so places that make slices like that, immediately have a disadvantage in my ratings. If you like tons of cheese and don’t care about the sauce, then you could probably go by the opposite of my ratings.

Dining room: large, TV’s, available private room/area (not closed off from rest of restaurant though), seemed clean, 2 Skill Games, self-serve fountain soda
Someone was smoking in kitchen (or somewhere in the back), bothered me, made me sick

Cheese: 7 – average/good
Sauce: 9 – well above average – tangy and right amount of it
Sauce to Cheese Ratio: 9 – well above average
Crust: 9 – well above average – Good chew, good thickness, slightly crispy and something a little different (good different) about it
Size: 7 – average/good
Service: 7 – average/good – would have been a 7, they were quick and the slices were heated properly, and they had the fixins I needed, but lost a point for the smoking
Facility: 7 – average/good – clean, but not noticeably super clean, nothing stood out to me as “wow, this is really clean”, but nothing the opposite either. Did not go in restroom.
Total: 55 (out of a possible 70) = 7.86 stars (out of a possible 10)
Slice Only Total: 41 (out of a possible 50) = 8.2 stars (out of a possible 10)
