Review of a Slice of Pizza at Marcello’s Pizza in Carlisle, PA

The Mission

I tried a slice of plain cheese pizza at every traditional pizza shop the Carlisle, Pennsylvania on a mission to find the best slice of pizza in Carlisle. I could eat pizza almost every meal of the day, it’s definitely one of my top favorite foods without question. And when I get pizza, I usually just get a few plain cheese slices from a traditional pizza shop nearby. Nothing fancy. But I am a bit picky about my slices. And since I live in Carlisle now, so I gotta know where the best slice is! Here’s my review of a slice of pizza from Marcello’s Pizza…

Even Playing Field

I made sure to visit each pizza shop either around 12:00PM noon or around 5:00PM/6:00PM when they should have a good fresh slice pie ready that hasn’t been sitting around for a while. This puts them on even playing fields and gives them the best shot at giving me a good representation of their slices. It also gives me the opportunity to see how the service is when they are a bit more busy. And I do not let them know I am doing a review, so they are not doing anything special or better because of that.

My Bias

Full disclosure, I’m a sauce guy. I need enough sauce and it needs to have some tang and/or sweetness and good flavor, or I won’t like it. And I don’t like a crazy amount of cheese, so places that make slices like that, immediately have a disadvantage in my ratings. If you like tons of cheese and don’t care about the sauce, then you could probably go by the opposite of my ratings.

Time: 5:50PM – Busy
Order: 1 slice of plain cheese pizza
Wait time after ordering: 14 min 40 sec – had to wait while they made a slice pie
Dining room: Dine in area for pizza shop, and full true restaurant seating section. Claw game machine, TV’s. Self-serve fountain drinks.

on a scale of 1 to 10

Cheese: 8 – a little above average – Has a little better/different/more taste than some of the others
Sauce: 7 – average/good
Sauce to Cheese Ratio: 6 – slightly below average – Less sauce than I like, but not non-existant
Crust: 9 – well above average – Great chew, good thickness, decent taste
Size: 6 – slightly below average – Slightly small
Service: 7 – average/good – Slice pie wasn’t ready and had to wait for them to make that, but other than that, service was good even though they were busy
Facility: 7 – average/good – same as most others: clean, but not noticeably super clean, nothing stood out to me as “wow, this is really clean”, but nothing the opposite either. Did not go in restroom.
Total: 50 (out of a possible 70) = 7.14 stars (out of a possible 10)
Slice Only Total: 36 (out of a possible 50) = 7.2 stars (out of a possible 10)
